I’m a German-born resident of the beautiful state of Maine.

I left Germany in 2016 to explore life and work in London, UK. After two years, I had the great opportunity to relocate for another job, bringing me to New York City, US.

While I initially enjoyed NYC, the pandemic brought my enjoyment to a halt. However, it allowed me to think clearly and realize that I needed a break from big city life, which brought me to Maine. I’ve always dreamt about retiring in a place with plenty of nature and an ocean nearby, but I didn’t realize that this didn’t have to be a retirement dream. As I prefer seeing the good rather than the bad, the good thing that came out of being stuck in an apartment in Midtown Manhattan was that I no longer wanted to be in an anonymous metropolis that felt lawless.

And here I am.

I bring a keen interest in the state’s history and culture. I firmly believe that an immigrant can cherish their own culture but should integrate into the country’s, the state’s, and even the culture of the town or city they live in.

Friends from Europe often ask me how life in the US is and how it compares to life in Germany and the UK. With this blog, I finally take the opportunity to write down my thoughts and findings.
